About Skai
I'm not just a photographer—I'm a storyteller, a cheerleader, and a believer in the power of meaningful images to uplift and transform.
Introduction
Photos that feel like you — honest, warm, and real
Hello! I'm Skai, a Singapore‑born Chinese freelance photographer who believes photos should feel like keepsakes, not commodities. I don't chase the spotlight — I shine it on others, crafting images that tell their story with honesty and care.
My languages are English, Chinese Mandarin, and cold humour. I dread formality. I'm an IT graduate, but the certificate's only purpose is to show off to nobody. As an introvert, I'd rather be behind the camera — but that's exactly why I'm good at helping others shine.
I document special moments that will be treasured for years to come and personalise impactful meaningful pictures for businesses and individuals — whether for keepsakes, branding, or even dating profiles.
Clients hire me for portraits, events, interiors, and real estate. In short, I photograph people and spaces.
I've dedicated countless hours to curating my website, showcasing my completed portrait work. My aim is to uplift individuals directly while inspiring and educating the broader community. Would you join me in this endeavour to make a meaningful impact together?
My Story
Helping others helped me find myself
-
The Spark
Photography began as my way of holding onto moments before they slipped away. With a soft heart and a forgetful mind, it became my way of preserving what mattered. Over time, it stopped being just for me — it became a way to help others hold onto theirs.
-
The Moment That Changed Everything
An ex‑colleague once joked she was "getting old". I saw something luminous — something worth celebrating. I felt compelled to show her. That moment changed everything. I didn't reach for my camera to impress; I reached for it to uplift. To reflect the strength, beauty, and presence people often forget they carry. I've been doing it ever since.
-
The Practice
In one of my first event jobs, I injured my wrist after holding a DSLR with a speedlite for nearly an hour non‑stop. It wasn't glamorous, but it taught me resilience and the importance of preparation.
I practised obsessively, not for perfection but for purpose. I helped friends, strangers, and anyone willing to trust me with their story. I didn't realise I was building a career — I was simply chasing the joy of helping people feel seen.
-
The Realisation
One day, while updating my website, it hit me: every shoot, every edit, every late‑night brainstorm had one thing in common. I was helping. Helping people feel confident. Helping them build their brand. Helping them document their growth, grit, and glow. It was never about the camera — it was about connection.
-
The Purpose
Call it naïve. Call it ambitious. I call it mine. Photography became my way of giving back — of building spaces where people could feel powerful, present, and real. And in offering that to others, I found something unexpected: clarity, purpose, and a quiet kind of healing.
Beyond the Lens
Who I Am
Photography may be my profession, but it doesn't define all of me. I'm detail‑oriented, empathetic, and resilient — qualities that help me create calm, comfortable shoots where clients feel safe and respected. I'm also an introvert with a soft spot for animals (cats and dogs are basically my unofficial colleagues), and a sense of humour that leans toward the "cold" variety.
My character is shaped by three traits: empathy, resilience, and meticulousness. Empathy helps me connect with people and make them feel comfortable. Resilience keeps me steady when life throws curveballs. And meticulousness ensures that every detail — from lighting to website layout — gets the attention it deserves.
Cold humour keeps me grounded; smiles from clients keep me company. At the end of the day, I'm not trying to be the most famous or the most polished. I'm simply trying to be real — someone who works hard, cares deeply, and uses photography as a way to connect, uplift, and leave something meaningful behind.
What Keeps Me Busy
Life is richer than just work. Many things deserve our effort, and I make space for them alongside photography. Balancing these commitments keeps my energy sustainable (and stops me from turning into a grumpy workaholic).
- Family
Family is the foundation of everything. I nurture bonds and even dabble in home improvement, turning our modest house into a more welcoming space.
- Website Refinement
Since 2012, I’ve spent thousands of hours tweaking my site. It’s my way of attracting kind souls who appreciate my work, while gently filtering out mismatched enquiries. (Yes, I’m the type who notices if a button is two pixels off.)
- Self‑Improvement
I refine my mindset, routines, and habits to stay balanced. I’m still learning to be gentler with myself — progress over perfection, right?
- Community Cats
I care for and document stray cats in Tengah, coordinating with neighbours to ensure they’re safe. Sometimes, managing cat lovers’ differing opinions is harder than caring for the cats themselves — but it’s all part of the journey.
- Community Fitness
I encourage healthier lifestyles by sharing fitness practices and running a Telegram group for neighbours. Helping others stay active also keeps me accountable.
- Other Challenges
Since 2024, I’ve been navigating tough experiences with a big local company. It’s been draining, but it’s also taught me resilience and the art of standing firm.
Behind the Scenes
I'm not just a photographer — I'm a people person. I go all out to make others feel comfortable, even if it means putting myself down to lift someone up. My intention is pure: I want you to feel good, safe, and seen.
Before the camera even comes out, I'm already tuning in. I use a TCM‑inspired approach to understand you — not through awkward questions, but through casual, intuitive conversation. I listen between the lines. I notice what's unsaid. And often, I uncover details that turn a good shoot into a meaningful one.
During the shoot, I guide with words — not touch. I respect your space, your boundaries, and your energy. My posing style leans toward lifestyle and casual, so nothing feels stiff or staged. When you feel safe, you relax. And when you relax, the photos come alive.
I see photography as planting seeds — each image grows into confidence, memory, and legacy. That's why I design every shoot to feel natural, empowering, and lasting.
I've also built this website to support you long before we meet. From how I structure my packages to how I write my FAQs, everything is designed to help you feel informed, empowered, and respected.
The Art and Heart of My Photography
Since 2012, I've worked across portraits, events, and commercial projects. My strength lies in creating flattering, natural light that brings out your best — I chase light so you'll look radiant, natural, and confident.
My goal is to produce work that feels meaningful, unique, and impactful. Challenges aren't obstacles — they're opportunities. Whether it's limited lighting at an event or unpredictable weather outdoors, I adapt and turn constraints into memorable results. The most reliable way to judge my skill is through my portfolio — what you see there reflects the quality and style I consistently deliver.
But skill alone isn't what sets me apart. Photography, to me, is about chasing truth. I began not to rack up bookings, but to help people feel good about themselves. I stayed because I saw how powerful that impact could be.
I believe in helping you see yourself with clarity, confidence, and kindness. That's why I go all out to make every client feel safe, respected, and uplifted.
My principles are simple:
- No shortcuts — every detail matters.
- No gimmicks — only what truly serves your story.
- No mismatches — I work with people who value meaning and mutual respect.
If you're looking for someone who's just here to "get the shot," I'm probably not the right fit. But if you want photography as a way to empower, connect, and transform — then I'd love to work with you.
I don't just capture faces — I capture the way people want to remember themselves.

Who I Work With Best
If you've read this far, you're already my kind of person
I work best with clients who are curious, intentional, and respectful — people who take the time to read, reflect, and understand before reaching out. This website isn't just a portfolio; it's the result of thousands of hours of refinement, built to help you make an informed, confident decision. I don't do things halfway, and I appreciate those who don't either.
Freelance photography is more complex than it looks. Every photographer works differently — our pricing, our process, our philosophy. That's why I value clients who take the time to understand how I work before messaging me. It's not about gatekeeping; it's about mutual respect. When someone reaches out with clarity and care, I already know we're off to a good start.
I choose my clients as carefully as they choose me. Because good photography isn't just about skill — it's about synergy.
If you've read this far, thank you. You're likely someone who values depth, clarity, and collaboration. That's exactly who I love working with — and it's why the photos we create together will feel authentic, powerful, and lasting.
Fun Facts About Me
Stars, numbers, and quirks behind the lens
-
Astrology & Life Path
In astrology, your sun sign reflects your core personality — mine is Scorpio, passionate, determined, and sometimes a little intense. Your rising sign reflects how others see you — mine is Aquarius, original, independent, and often unconventional. Together, they explain why I balance depth with a streak of originality.
My Life Path number 9 is all about compassion and service. According to MindBodyGreen, Life Path 9s are humanitarian, creative, and driven to leave a lasting impact. That resonates with me — I see photography not just as art, but as a way to uplift and inspire.

Personality Frameworks
My MBTI type is INFJ‑T, often called the "Advocate". As described on 16Personalities, INFJs are known for their empathy, insight, and idealism. I relate strongly to this — meticulous, empathetic, and always searching for meaning.
I'm also an Enneagram Type 2, known as "The Helper". I first discovered this through Eclectic Energies, and it's also described in depth by The Enneagram Institute. Type 2s are motivated by love and connection, and thrive when supporting others. This shows up in my photography — I don't just take pictures, I create spaces where people feel safe, valued, and seen. The challenge is remembering to care for myself as much as I care for others, but the reward is seeing the confidence and joy reflected back in my clients.
My DISC profile highlights steadiness (47%) and conscientiousness (31%) as my strongest traits, with lower dominance and influence. In practice, this means I'm calm under pressure, reliable, and detail‑oriented — qualities that help me adapt to unpredictable shoots while keeping clients at ease. I don't chase dominance or flash; instead, I focus on creating safe, authentic, and meaningful experiences. That's why my photography feels less like a transaction and more like a collaboration built on trust. Learn more about DISC at Tony Robbins DISC overview.
Put together, these frameworks paint a consistent picture: I'm driven by compassion (Life Path 9, Type 2), guided by depth and originality (Scorpio sun, Aquarius rising), and shaped by empathy, insight, and steadiness (INFJ‑T, DISC). In photography, this means I don't just capture faces — I create images that reflect confidence, authenticity, and connection. My personality isn't separate from my work; it's the reason my photos feel meaningful.
